iTunes 10.1.1 fixes some bugs, introduces another

by Vlad Bobleanta on December 16, 2010 at 12:00 PM

iTunes 10.1.1 update screenshotiTunes 10.1.1 is now available for download, either direct from Apple's dedicated website, or via iTunes' integrated Software Update mechanism (which may have already prompted you to download).

As the version bump lets on, this is a minor update meant only to fix bugs. Among the issues that it rectifies is one where some music videos did not play on Macs with certain graphic cards, one which made iTunes unexpectedly quit when deleting a playlist, one which made some videos not sync to an iPod, iPhone or iPad, and another which caused iTunes to quit when connecting an iPod to a PowerPC-equipped Mac.

However, updating to this version via the Apple Software Update has caused iTunes to simply stop working for many users. The solution, if you've already faced this issue, is to download iTunes 10.1.1 from Apple's website and reinstall. If you haven't updated yet, perhaps it would be best to either wait or just download the full package from Apple.com and install that.

Some Beatles fans have waited for this moment since they were 64.

Apple Inc. is expected to announce that iTunes customers will soon be able to buy the Fab Four's songs, The Wall Street Journal reported ($) on its website Monday night.

On Apple's website, the company left a message saying it will have "an exciting announcement" Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Eastern time.

Apple Teases iTunes News

The new library of music that would be available from the world's largest music retailer comes after talks among Apple executives and people representing the Beatles and their record label, EMI Group Ltd., according to the Journal.

The Journal cites anonymous "people familiar with the situation" in its article. Spokesmen for Apple, EMI and Paul McCartney declined to comment to the Journal.

The Journal reports that it could not find out the terms of the deal.

As recently as August it was reported that such a deal was a non-starter amid speculation that the multiple parties were reaching an agreement.

"Don't hold your breath ... for anything," Yoko Ono, John Lennon's widow, told the Reuters news agency then. "There's just an element that we're not very happy about, as people. We are holding out."

The relationship between the famed computer company from Cupertino, Calif., and the renowned band from Liverpool, England, hasn't just been over song rights. Apple has had a grating history with Apple Corps, the Beatles' holding company, over rights to the name Apple. But a trademark rights lawsuit was settled in 2007 with Apple Inc. essentially winning the debate.
